Sean Penn visits Hand in Hand!

December 1st, 2015

We are still smiling from our moving visit with actor Sean Penn and singer David Broza in our Jerusalem school!

When they arrived at the school, we sat together with the 3rd-6th grade student council who spoke about what it's like for them to live their daily lives together, and thanked Penn for inspiring us with his dedication to improving the lives of so many people in Haiti around the world. We finished the visit with a rendition of David Broza's song "yihieh tov," or "it will be alright."

At the end of our visit Yaffa Shira, one of our veteran teachers, started talking to Penn about his aid work around the world, and thanked him for coming to the school “you are an international icon, and what you do is so significant,” she said to Penn, who was clearly moved by the meeting. “No,no” he corrected her, “this is my first visit to Israel, and being here with you is so encouraging. What you are doing is the real significant thing.”

Penn is in Israel in cooperation with IsraAID, to raise awareness about the humanitarian situation in Haiti.
