In such difficult times, when the voices of hatred and escalating violence are dominating public discourse,  Hand in Hand is calling for a different civil response.  Our activity, some of which is detailed below, strengthens the existing social forces which continue to maintain strong relations between Jews and Arabs.  Our voice calls for the parties to promote solutions through dialogue, inclusion and equality.  Our efforts are bringing together thousands in solidarity.  Our growing network of integrated schools and shared communitie

July 3, 2014 From Shuli Dichter, Hand in Hand CEO: On Sunday, the day that we heard of the fate of the three Jewish boys who were kidnapped, the screening event for the final film projects in the Jerusalem high school was about to begin. These are moments when the sky goes dark and all you want to do is go home and come out again when the skies clear. Even in this darkness, the decision whether we should continue with this evening took about 10 seconds.

On June 20th, 2014, the Jaffa Preschool celebrated their first year. Ami Kaufman, a parent at the school, shared his personal reflections:  Today something new happened in Jaffa. The first class in the Hand in Hand bilingual Jaffa Preschool finished their year, and the little ones came together with their parents to celebrate this historic moment.  

May 2014 Take a look at “On the Way to Peace”, the Hebrew-Arabic student newspaper in Wadi Ara. Students wrote short pieces on school events, including the school’s ten-year anniversary, the juggling club, and the results of the student council elections.

May 2014 These ten days – in which we mark Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Nakba Day – are particularly sensitive for those who truly live shared lives. Sadness and joy, shame and pain come together in Hand in Hand schools and the communities which surround them. For those who are truly devoted to this journey that we called shared living, it is difficult to avoid feeling that we are in a zero-sum game of emotions, in which the joy of one creates the sadness for the other.

March 24th, 2014 A celebration of color, sound, feeling and creativity, the identity exhibition in the Max Rayne Hand in Hand Bilingual school in Jerusalem was a great success. The exhibit is the culmination of months of learning in the 1st-9th grade classes and included expressions of many layers of identity: personal, familial, communal, religious, and national. Over the course of this project, students learned about their multiple identities, deepening their understanding about themselves and their surroundings.

March 28th, 2014 This year, for the first time, the Hand in Hand Jerusalem community partnered with Ibna Al Kuds, an Arab community center that serves residents of East Jerusalem. Together they marked International Women’s Day, supporting local Palestinian and Israeli women’s craft collectives and individual artists at a crafts fair hosted at the Max Rayne Jerusalem School.

March, 2014 The Hand in Hand Galilee School launched an accessibility project for its 6th grade last month. Students are learning and becoming active in raising awareness about accessibility for the disabled in school as well as in the larger Jewish and Arab communities in the Galilee.

April 1st, 2014 "But there are gaps in the wall, where a little light gets in."

March 24th, 2014 Both teachers and students won prizes in city-wide events this week. "This week proved once again how our school has become influential in the social and public spheres in Israel. The walls around our school are falling, and the movement is gaining momentum both inside and outside of our community. Wherever I go I am full of pride to be part of our school and community."
