August 24-25, 2015

July 29th, 2015 President Rivlin hosted Hand in Hand students and Project Harmony summer camp participants to his home on July 29th, 2015. The President has already hosted our first grade class after the Arson attack in November 2014, and was excited to meet our students again. He spoke to the kids about his six grandchildren, and how each one of them are different, but they can still all sit around the same table and enjoy each other.

On July 22nd, 2015, two of the three arsonists who set fire to Hand in Hand's first grade classrooms in November 2014 were sentenced to 2 and 2.5 years in jail, and fined 25,000 NIS collectively.

July 23rd, 2015   Hand in Hand and the American Federation of Teachers, with its 1.6 million members, share a common mission for strong, vibrant public schools that are safe and welcoming for all; that develop students’ problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through engaging curriculum; that have well-prepared and well-supported teachers and school staff; and that have strong ties with the community.

On June 12th, 2015, Hand in Hand's 59 preschool staff from around country came together for an annual preschool education seminar. Our teachers are our frontline workers, implementing Hand in Hand values every day. The teachers and pedagogical staff spent two days exploring bilingualism in the classrooms – and how they can learn from one another in order to improve in the coming school year.

June 12th, 2015  30 graduates from Jerusalem, Wadi Ara and the Galilee schools participated in Hand in Hand’s first ever Overnight Alumni Retreat on June 12-13 They had a chance to get to know one another, talk about their shared identities, challenges they face, and have fun together. We are extremely excited by this wonderful beginning.

May 26th, 2015   We have had an amazing year in all six of our shared communities - in Jerusalem, Wadi Ara, the Galilee, Jaffa, Haifa, and in our newest community in Tira-Kfar Saba. We have grown in numbers and in strength as thousands of Jews and Arabs in Israel came together as part of Hand in Hand to engage deeply, create friendships, and work together to build a shared society.    Below are a few highlights:

Who are the people behind Hand in Hand? Who are the students, the teachers, the security guards, the handymen, the administration, the parents, the communities?

April 22nd, 2015 Each of our schools held a shared ceremony on Memorial Day, giving space to students, teachers, and parents to share stories, sing, and draw their experiences of loss and hope for the future.  We will be updating with some of the personal stories in the coming week. Jerusalem:
