Annual education conference 2015!

August 24-25, 2015

Yesterday Hand in Hand's 200 Jewish and Arab teachers and staff from throughout the country got back home from a two-day annual education conference. The main goal of the weekend, which was put together by Inas Deeb, the Director of the Education Department, was to get to know and to dive deep into the educational processes that Hand in Hand has put into motion in our educational frameworks; to investigate and reevaluate what we are doing every day. This will improve our strategy and pedagogy as we continue to be leaders in bilingual, multicultural education.

The conference was also an opportunity to share our challenges and successes with one another and to welcome the newest staff members and teachers from Hand in Hand's newest preschool in Tira - Kfar Saba and the new first grade classrooms in Jaffa.

In the teacher-led breakout sessions, staff explored questions, like:
How do you teach three religions in one class? How do speak to preschoolers about the reality they live in? How do you meet the challenge of teaching two languages without too much translation? How do you connect "historic truths" and historical narratives in a way that can teach towards tolerance?

"We all left the conference with a strong feeling of being enriched and embraced, with mutual support and cooperation with our partners on this path."
- Anat Itzhaki, Dorector of the Jaffa School
