"Why I Choose to Be Part of the Solution:" Meet Principal Mohammad Kundos

Mohammad is principal of the HIH “Alif-Beit” school in Kfar Saba, and like many in our Hand in Hand community, has relatives living in Gaza. Mohammad’s family hasn’t been able to reach their Gazan cousins since the war broke out, and it’s been a constant source of worry and fear for the past 14 months.

In our most recent webinar, Mohammad spoke about what has kept him motivated as principal during this past year of war, and why he chooses to be part of the solution.

“For my family in Gaza, I believe it is my duty to fight for a better future for all of us,” shares Mohammad. “My commitment to my Palestinian and Jewish staff, students, and community is what brings me to the school every day.

Realizing how crazy and difficult this year of war has been—this is also where I find my reason for being principal of a Hand in Hand school. Because I choose to be part of the solution.

Our students don’t see who is Palestinian or who is Jewish. They see each other purely as human beings. And working with these kids allows you to live in peace. I feel, on a daily basis, that I live in peace by doing the right thing.

The majority of Palestinians and Jews know only one narrative. At our schools, we try to give students their basic right to see the whole picture and know each other’s hearts and minds. Then they learn we all want the same things—peace, justice, and freedom.“
